The song starts with a striking energy, spurred on by an abundance of synth and a concrete bass sound; backing Waterhouse’s wistful lyrics that reflect on a sleazy past romance.
These elements all merge to create a pop-rock track that holds a 90’s tinge and more of a grunge feel than previous music, whilst Suki's vocals still possess the alluring sound that we know and love from past work.
The release of ‘OMG’ was accompanied by a music video, portraying the singer dressed in the style of a grieving Old Hollywood icon, complete with drawn-on eyebrows and gown. The character, surrounded by dancers, performs the song in a lush greenhouse setting, becoming increasingly animated until she smashes a vase full of roses- possibly symbolising the abandonment of who she once was.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer revealed that the new music has been heavily inspired by the quintessential British indie rock group Arctic Monkeys, which is evident from this single alone, and supports the idea of the much anticipated ‘indie sleaze’ revival that has been prophesied for 2024.
The song, which Waterhouse co-wrote with Natalie Findlay and Jules Apollinaire, precedes Waterhouse’s forthcoming second album, set to release later this year.
