Brandi Myer Takes Back Her Power On ‘Ready To Gaslight’

Introducing singer-songwriter Brandi Myer, who is gearing up to make her musical debut with her first single ‘Ready To Gaslight’. Taking inspiration from Brandi Carlile and The Smashing Pumpkins, listeners can expect to hear a timeless fusion of classic rock and alternative from Myer.

The upcoming single is set to debut Wednesday 19th February, and explores Myer’s personal experience with toxicity. Although it’s not made explicitly clear if this experience came from a partner, friend, or merely an acquaintance, the song actually finds strength in this anonymity, as escaping anybody of such nature, regardless of their direct relationship to you, is always something to be celebrated.

Myers dives straight into the jaws of this, with an enticing bassline and the gut-punching opening statement “Survived balancing on that high wire / Enduring your daily trial by fire”. Even the opening word itself, “Survived”, indicates Myer’s sheer tenacity as she sets the destructive scene.

As the song develops, the alternative-rock feel really pulls through and becomes more prevalent. Myer actually took the time to explain how she composed the song on her Facebook page, specifying certain components such as the palm-muted power chords and intentional chord progressions. These natural but strategic individual elements showcase Myer’s talent for music theory and play on the listener’s ears just enough to keep them engaged throughout.

Lyrically, the track keeps up its direct and unapologetic nature, especially with the sarcastic questioning in the chorus, “You were never wrong, am I remembering that right?”.

However, perhaps the most compelling lyric is “I got to know me without you”; removing a gaslighter from your life is one triumph, but learning about yourself at your own pace is certainly another. The freedom to figure out yourself, your own hobbies and interests, and surrounding yourself with people of your own choosing is another crucially empowering moment, and Myer provides a space to celebrate that in ‘Ready To Gaslight’.

The track is an unwavering and rightfully unashamed catharsis, as Myer relinquishes the shackles of another’s restrictive opinion, actions, and presence.
