Cynic Turned Storyteller: Chayne Drops Bold New Single ‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’

Rising star Chayne returns with the fourth single, ‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’, where she continues to make waves in the alternative-pop sphere, blending energetic melodies with a robust tempo for a nostalgic early-2000s pop-rock vibe.

‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’ opens with a hushed, disdainful voice declaring, “I can’t do this anymore / I’m not your consolation prize”, set against a blunt, hesitant drumbeat that evo

kes vulnerability and a slow brooding tempo.

This restrained beginning soon erupts into a powerful guitar arrangement, infused with distortion, symbolising a moment of clarity and newfound confidence to break free from a toxic cycle. Chayne weaves heavily repetitive chords into a deep, driving bassline, crafting a bold, infectious melody that anchors the track. The result? It is an irresistibly catchy sound that lingers with the listener, delivering a sense of strength and empowerment.

Chayne’s performance is mesmerising, with soft, airy vocals that similar to Poppy or Heather Baron-Grace, seamlessly blend with the instrumentals, creating a dreamy yet energetic atmosphere. However, this uplifting sound is sharply contrasted by the biting, cynical lyrics, such as, “Where’s your pride? / Your Dignity? / You’re so-called love for me? … please don’t make me laugh”. This contrast between melodies and razor-sharp lyrics gives ‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’ a unique edge, creating an emotional push-and-pull.

Chayne masterfully balances vulnerability with defiance in ‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’ through raw and unfiltered lyrics and layered with intensely catchy instrumentals for a universally relatable, deeply personal track.
