Esmeralda Road Are Set To Single-handedly Pave The Way For Modern Jazz- Proven By Triumphant Single ‘7 Tune’

Hailing from the bustling Belfast gig scene in Northern Ireland, Esmeralda Road have rapidly made an undeniably positive name for themselves within the past couple of years from their worthy win of BBC ATL Artist of the Year at the 2023 NI Music Prize to the support slot of a lifetime for any up-and-coming indie band, Liam Gallagher at Belfast Vital last summer. It is transparent that there’s more to come for this soulful ensemble as they simply achieve more and more. 

I first encountered Esmeralda Road when mindlessly scrolling through Instagram to stumble upon a litany of posts and stories of my music-obsessive peers raving about their debut single ‘To U’, released in early 2023. It was peculiar to hear an indie band from Belfast with such a distinct jazz influence, yet it felt as though it could truly be something brilliant- and that it was. 

From here, the sound of Esmeralda road has developed meticulously, track after track building up a dedicated crowd, leading to their most recent single- ‘7 Tune’. In the words of frontman Charlie Magill "Lyrically, the song lives in the defiant nature one finds themselves in after a breakup. Caught between standing your ground and longing for a return to form, the lyrics encapsulate subduing this internal debate and finding stability within yourself".

The brutally candid nature of the lyrics entirely juxtapose the utter joy that this track radiates, a true Paramore 'After Laughter’ moment. This track feels like a late night out merrily dancing at a dimly lit, somewhat pretentious and overpriced jazz bar without a care in the world surrounded by friends, yet truthfully explores quite an uncertain and disheartening situation. 

A stand-out feature of this track would be the varying vocals, almost spoken and blunt in some points of the verses yet effortlessly sliding in and out of a harmonious chorus, showcasing an impeccable range. This is of course accompanied with a smooth guitar sound, melding together to create an overall stunningly catchy track. 

Esmeralda Road continues to evolve and expand on the unparalleled sound that they have established, creating a true pathway for success.
