Fontaines D.C. Astonish Fans With Belter Single ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’

‘Romance’ was arguably the album of the Summer for the indie-rock scene, and now Fontaines D.C. fans have been graced with the single of the Spring, with elements of smash-hit ‘Favourite’, ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’ sounds like an enticingly fresh start, a ‘Romance’ track that anticipates what’s to come for the band.

The track's swiftly solemn beginning exudes hints of Hind’s ‘Stranger’, featuring Grian Chatten, a melodramatic yet hopeful tune with a sense of whimsy and longing.  However, it quickly picks up within the first chorus alongside melancholic lyrics such as “Sometimes I / wake up and it's dark / Perform the ritual that puts me in the part / Well, I sang 'em every word I had / Seems like they're never gonna understand”.  This harsh contradiction with the overwhelmingly upbeat and somewhat nostalgic melody is in true Fontaines' fashion, the use of catchy 90’s-esque hooks surprisingly melding with the sincere nature of the song.

Fontaines D.C. have been touring for ‘Romance’ since Autumn of last year, and are set to play numerous summer outdoor dates including a headline at Finsbury Park in July. This track’s climactic outro showcasing Chatten’s lively vocals would make for a fantastic festival moment, exclaimed by a crowd packed full of bucket hat-wearing teens - a joyful serenade to youth.
