Poppy Demonstrates Her Pop Vocals With Live Cover Of 'Taste'

Metalcore icon Poppy has paid homage to pop royalty Sabrina Carpenter by covering her hit song 'Taste' on triple j's Like a Version. The LA-based artist debuted on the radio show's legendary segment which also included her performing her original track 'crystallized'.

Poppy's version of the hit song contains some edits to the original track, which features on Sabrina's latest album, 'Short n Sweet'. The alternative singer chose to shorten the song and include a segment of 'I Touch Myself' by Divinyls, which flows effortlessly into the middle of the performance. These revisions help to make the cover more unique and personal - it wouldn't be Poppy if she didn't include some experimentation in the music she creates!

The cover retains the optimistic sound of the original record, with the keyboard maintaining the synthesizer sounds which create the sound Sabrina has perfected. However, Poppy does strip it back slightly with more of the sound's focus on the lead guitar, giving it more of an indie rock edge. Poppy's vocals are on point as always. She is easily able to demonstrate her abilities as a pop vocalist.

This comes in stark contrast to her latest Grammy nomination which saw her track with Knocked Loose titled 'Suffocate' up for an award. Her versatility to perform with such a range from hardcore metal to light-hearted pop music is admirable.

Poppy's cover of 'Taste' was recorded in Australia during a day off from her tour with Bad Omens, one of the biggest names in metalcore right now. She's set to perform a headlining tour around North America later this year, with tickets still available on her website.
