Seven Questions With BLYTHE

Manchester-based BLYTHE are the hottest new "grunge-gaze" band on the scene, championing thrilling, high-octane cuts. Their latest double release, 'In Company / Out Of Place' boasts ethereal vocals and ferocious instrumentation and promises an exciting future for the quartet.

We chat with BLYTHE about their shoegaze and nu-metal influences, genuine interactions with fans and their upcoming New York show as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.

Introduce yourself and where you’re from.

We are BLYTHE, Manchester grunge-gaze with members from across the north (Grimsby, Middlesborough, Wigan and Glossop).

What do our readers need to know about BLYTHE?

We make music with no limitation on fitting into any particular sound, we are big fans of music across the alternative spectrum but particularly those within punk, taking heavy inspiration from 90s grunge, hardcore punk, emo, shoegaze and nu-metal. Inspiration largely from Deftones, Superheaven, Basement, Alice In Chains, Turnstile and whoever else fits between. So we just do stuff that sounds like all of that basically.

What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?

We have our first show abroad in New York City playing New Colossus Festival in March. An opportunity that we still struggle to fathom the thought of but the closer we get, the more we can’t wait to show New York who we are. Plus other very cool plans while we’re there that we can’t mention yet. Also first EP this year.

What’s the best run in you’ve had with a fan?

Any time we’re noticed for our music or performance or for any reason really, is a lovely experience, being asked about our plans and showing genuine interest in us is a great feeling.

What’s been your biggest 'I’ve made it' moment so far?

Getting the New York email was a massive woah moment for us, something that surpasses anything we’ve ever done. We’ve played a lot of amazing shows with amazing bands, recently dry socket (US) and previously Mercury who we’re big fans of and whom are doing great stuff at the minute. Just playing an incredible show with a great, energetic crowd is always a “made it” moment.

What are your three “desert island” albums?

Deftones - 'Around The Fur', Nirvana - 'MTV Unplugged', Basement - 'colourmeinkindness'

Sum up your sound in three words

Riffs, Ethereal, Massive
