Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter Dave Hause made his name being in rock outfits such as The Loved Ones, and Paint It Black before branching out on his own with break-out EP 'Heavy Heart' in 2012. His latest release, 'The Bridge' boasts melodic folk rock and promises an exciting year ahead.
With his acoustic UK tour on the horizon, we chat with Hause about being surprised by fans, heartfelt interactions and Bruce Springsteen as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
I’m Dave Hause, I’m from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. What do our readers need to know about you?
They need to know that I write really good songs and I sing them with my brother Tim, and we’re going to be doing just that in the United Kingdom in a few weeks. Therefore, they should listen to the material, and then attend the show.
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
We just recorded a ton of material in Vancover, CA last week for our next album. I brought my band, The Mermaid with me and we made a ripping rock and roll record. We hope to put it out in the late summer.
What’s the best run in you’ve had with a fan?
There are tons of them, but the first two that come to mind are an early interaction with a fan who said she heard my first record and she decided not to kill herself, which was heavy and wonderful and mind-blowing. The second was some years ago a fan I didn’t know offered me a ticket in the fifth row of Springsteen on Broadway, and despite my reservations, I decided to take him up on it and we had a wonderful, life affirming time, and we’ve become friends.
What’s been your 'I’ve made it' moment so far?
The last time I felt that way was when we launched our festival in Philadelphia, Sing Us Home. It was a monumental endeavor, and we pulled it off to such a wonderful outcome, people from four to 84 had a blast in our hometown.
What are your three “desert island” albums?
Whatever record teaches me to survive or build a boat to leave the island comes first. After that, 'Full Moon Fever' and 'Reckless'.
Sum up your sound in three words.
