Cherry i’s ‘Alaska’ Offers A Haunting Dive Into Memory And Melancholy

London-based band Cherry i returns with ‘Alaska’, their second single, a haunting and immersive track that further establishes their unique sound. Blending melancholic storytelling with mesmerizing visuals, the song confirm confirms the band’s growing reputation for creating music that lingers long after the last note.

Cherry i was born out of a sudden moment of closeness.

When Nastya (guitar) moved in with Nikol’s (vocals) family during a difficult time, a natural musical collaboration developed. What started as a creative outlet soon grew into a full-fledged band with Slava (bass) and Gabri (drums) joining in. This sense of spontaneity and connection is reflected in their music, which is both deeply personal and relatable.

Built on a foundation of squealing and distorted guitars, 'Alaska' pulses with unspoken frustration. Nikol’s vocals shift effortlessly between detached contemplation and raw anger, pulling listeners into a whirlwind of atmosphere and emotion. The layered instrumentals envelop like a sonic fog, as the track develops like a slow-burning confession.

The lyrics of ‘Alaska’ are based on Nikol’s reflections on her childhood in Ukraine, intertwined with the complex emotions of displacement and resilience— “Alaska I wanna be your kid again / Grandma selling roses / Shot glass full of lemonade”.

The offbeat guitar riffs and relentless rhythms echo the emotional weight of the song, creating a soundscape that is both hypnotic and unsettling. This track doesn’t just invite you in—it dares you to dive deeper.

Directed by Ben Pierce, the ‘Alaska’ music video amplifies the song’s introspective nature with a moody, ‘90s detective film aesthetic. The noir-inspired visuals shape the track’s haunting ambiance, as Nikol both acts and watches herself on the screen, immersing viewers into Cherry i’s world.

Now a rising force in London’s underground music scene, Cherry i is gaining momentum with live performances and a series of upcoming releases. With an EP on the horizon, ‘Alaska’ is just the tip of the iceberg, offering a glimpse into their evolving artistry—offbeat, evocative, and impossible to ignore.
