Essex-raised singer, songwriter and producer, Erin LeCount has released her highly-anticipated single, ‘Marble Arch’.
The emotional track, described by LeCount on Instagram as a “personal labour of love” was the first song written for her next EP, ‘I Am Digital, I Am Divine’ announced alongside the release.
‘Marble Arch’ is a lyrical masterpiece, a raw monologue of feeling unlovable and losing yourself. A song to scream the lyrics to, or quietly let LeCount's ethereal vocals wash over you. The chorus asks a series of despairing questions; “Am I hard to love? / Am I cold to touch?”. However, the second chorus brings a renewed confidence in LeCount’s vocals and a driving drumbeat courtesy of James Jacob. Combined with a clever lyric switch from “Am I hard to love?” To “I am hard to love”, the second half of the track signals a new direction, ending with a breathy resolve; “I don’t wanna be cold anymore”.
LeCount, known to lyrically and symbolically explore divinity and art in her music, compares her body to different objects throughout the track. LeCount’s poignant lyricism describes herself as a decoration, existing to be observed having lost her sense of self: “This body used to be my home now it's just an homage / A souvenir I gave to everyone I love / The walls of my heart look like museum corridors”. The precarious duality between fighting to appear as a work of art whilst losing a sense of identity is mirrored by LeCount’s vulnerable lyricism dancing on the edge of an almost optimistic soundtrack.
With a rapidly growing following on TikTok, LeCount leaked the chorus of ‘Marble Arch’ before any sign of a release date, prompting months of new fans clamouring to hear the song in full. With a poetic lyricism reminiscent of Florence and The Machine, fans have been busy dreaming up collaborations with Griff and Ethel Cain. Continuing to build her reputation as a self-produced artist for boundary-breaking soundscapes and angelic harmonies, ‘Marble Arch’ is just waiting for a version with full choir.
With soaring vocals, expertly crafted harmonies and lyrics layered with hidden meanings, ‘Marble Arch’ is not one to miss.
