Naom Peri's 'Flowers': A Soul-Stirring Exploration of Love and Longing

LA-based singer-songwriter Naom Peri brings ‘Flowers’, a heartfelt collection of songs that feel like intimate diary entries through a blend of emotions and indie rock which takes listeners on a journey of self-discovery, navigating the highs and lows of love, loss, and everything in-between.

‘Angel’ opens with jangly, repetitive rhythmic guitars that gradually build in tempo, leading into dynamic, distorted chords that add depth and intensity. A steady, static drumbeat anchors the track, providing a strong, unwavering backbeat that reinforces its resolute tone.

Naom plays with contrast with the introduction of light, airy vocals, blending textures to create an ethereal yet slightly harsh soundscape. This juxtaposition mirrors the song’s themes of uncertainty, longing, and bittersweet reflections, as expressed in the lyrics: “She’s holding her heart in my hands and she doesn’t know I’m there / It’s all in my head / You and I This world never gave us a shot…I could be what you want”. With a subtle nod to 2000s pop rock, ‘Angel’ captures the ache of unanswered what-ifs and lingering maybes.

‘Take Me Home’ takes a more upbeat energy with fast-paced guitars and dynamic drums that create a folk-like sound, perfectly capturing the excitement of new feelings for someone special. In contrast, ‘In The Storm’ delves into heartbreak, with a slower tempo and melancholic guitars that build a mood of sorrow and introspection.

Naom’s vocals remain soft yet rich with emotion and vulnerability, adding depth to ‘In The Storm’’s heartfelt plea for enduring love. Lines like “If you want to cry / You know I’d hold you / Even when you want to run away/ Don’t let me go / Broken hearts heal so slow / Even in the dark, even in the storm / a part of me will always be your home” expresses a longing for connection, even in the face of inevitable pain.

‘Darling, I would’ similarly explores the vulnerability of yearning for someone while holding back a part of yourself this is explored in the lyrics, “If I could kiss you, darling, I would / But I can’t trust my mind”. Though it shares thematic and tonal similarities with ‘In The Storm’, its overall essence is even deeper. The low-tuned instruments add to the song’s sombre atmosphere, drenched in melancholy.

‘Debbie’ bursts open with dynamic drums, where hollow tapping creates a quick-stepping rhythm, soon met by an explosion of electrifying guitar riffs. Despite its high energy, ‘Debbie’ carries a hazy, psychedelic undertone, drawing clear inspiration from ‘70s rock and a clear-cut image of Debbie Harry.

In contrast, ‘Pipes (English Version)’ introduces a heavier, more sombre atmosphere. Naom’s haunting vocals intertwine with eerie percussion, delicate reverberations, and echoing drums, crafting a mesmerising soundscape.

Naom Peri’s ‘Flowers’ is a deeply introspective and sonically rich collection of songs that blends indie rock with raw, emotive storytelling. Each track navigates a different emotional terrain—from the euphoric rush of new love to aching vulnerability. Through dynamic instrumentation and ethereal yet poignant lyrics, ‘Flowers’ is not just an EP but an intimate journey of self-discovery and longing.
