To Impress Or Not To Impress: Cholly’s New Single Binds Music With Sonic Exploration

Multi-instrumentalist sensation Cholly has been gracing the musical scene for a decade now and continues to produce some truly captivating tracks. Known for uniquely blending the sound of surrounding environments and instruments, she transcends genre itself. She is an experimentalist in its purest form.

As demonstrated beautifully in her latest track, Cholly exhibits the perfect balance between tempo and tonality. This balance drives her music; she captures the world in its rawness and converges it with musicality.

Her new single ‘IDWI’, an acronym for I Don’t Wanna Impress, takes no time before diving right into the material. Her vocals are immediate, a refreshing break from the usual slower incline into lyrics that pop songs often utilise. It’s met with a jaunty, electronica beat that acts as the song’s undercurrent, moving it between tempos and pitches but never straying from this core sound.

Through the song’s progression into a kaleidoscopic take on sampling and creation, Cholly’s rearrangement of sound and lyrics proves that, with a little genius, a small foundational group of sounds can become so much more. It can become this ethereal, lo-fi track that inhabits this equilibrium between vocals and instrumentals.

Curiosity keeps us engaged, synergy keeps us excited, and Cholly brings us both in such great intensity. This new track is the perfect addition to an already incredible discography, one that epitomises the blending of our musical world around us with music itself.
