The self-described doom punk band Witch Fever have just released their new single ‘Dead To Me!’. The Manchester based four piece consists of Amy Walpole (vocals), Alisha Yardwood (guitar), Alex Thompson (bass) and Annabelle Joyce (drums). With their debut album, 'Congregation' having been released in 2022, Witch Fever took some time off and are now back with their newest single. Angrier, louder and more authentic than ever.
The music video to ‘Dead To Me!’ was directed by James Kennedy. It’s a dark video with fast changing clips, alternating between disturbing footage of Amy Walpole on the floor, maggots crawling on instruments and close ups of the band showered in red light and black and white footage. As a band who’s not being put into boxes, neither gender-wise nor genre-wise, Witch Fever is defining their own boundaries and limits, consistently breaking and redefining them.
With easy to remember lyrics “I got a glimpse of all your sin / Dead to me, dead to me” the song is one, that a lot of people can relate to. It’s a song about the mistakes of other people, the hurt and marks those left behind and about the anger to never let other people too close to hurt. Their newest single also deals with the emptiness that’s left behind when hope repeatedly isn’t being brought to life as can be seen in “Hope was such a dirty word / Never helped to quench my thirst”.
The subcultural vibe of Witch Fever, might be seen as a mix of punk, metal and goth but seems to wander between all and no genre at the same time. With heavy guitar riffs, raw and unpolished vocals and enraged drums, ‘Dead To Me!’ continues the genre bouncing style, letting fans hope for more music in the near future.
